Texture information
Expanded KTX2 support is now available, including Basis Universal, Zstandard, ZLIB, uncompressed textures, BC1–BC7, ETC/EAC, and KTX2 ASTC software decoding. Other GPU-compressed formats depend on browser support. Some packed formats and color spaces are not yet supported. The viewer requires WebGL2 and WebAssembly.
Updates
- 10 September 2026 - Expanded KTX2 support with software decoding for more texture formats. Added mip level, cubemap face, array layer, and depth slice selection, plus channel inspection, HDR exposure, and tone mapping.
- 24 July 2025 - KTX2 now partially supported.
- 13 June 2025 - KTX1 support available.
What is KTX?
KTX (Khronos Texture) is a lightweight file format for OpenGL and Vulkan textures developed by the Khronos Group. It's designed to store textures in their GPU-ready format, eliminating the need for runtime conversion and providing optimal loading performance.
KTX files can contain 2D textures, cubemaps, texture arrays, and mipmaps. They support various compression formats including ETC, ASTC, S3TC, and PVRTC, making them ideal for cross-platform applications and games where texture loading speed and memory efficiency are crucial.
